Debate Evaluation

 

Proposition: Bluffing is ethical (in negotiation)

Opposition: Bluffing is not ethical (in negotiation)

 

 

Scoring if the debate:  Up to 20 points per item (analysis, evidence, etc.) is allowed.  The categories to be evaluated are listed below.

 

Opening Statement (5 minutes each)

1.      Analysis (most relevant issues addressed?  Position of the debater is clear?)

2.      Evidence (were the debater’s claims supported with evidence and was the evidence relevant and credible?)

3.      Reasoning (Did the conclusions flow from the evidence presented?  Were there flaws in the reasoning?)

 

Cross examination (3 minutes each)

1.      Challenge (Did the debater pose points of information that challenged his/her opponent’s position?  Were his/her responses to the points of information strong?)

 

Closing statement (3 minutes each)

1.      Refutation (did the debater address points advanced by his/her opponent?  Did the debater present compelling counter-arguments?)

2.      Presentation (Did the debater conduct him/herself in a professional manner?  Does the debater appear credible?)
